The Advent of our King!As we recover from the extremes of turkey and football, we quickly move into the celebration of The Season of Advent. Some of you come from congregations that offered special Mid-week Advent worship opportunities, similar to our Mid-week Lenten services and have asked that we consider doing these.
This year Pastor Mariola Bergquist, our Visitation Pastor, will be responsible for providing the leadership for Mid Week Advent Services here at St. John. (see page 11) The worship services will be held in The Historic Chapel at 10 am and at 6:15 pm. The worship time will be short, quiet, meditative and special. The worship will end in time for Choir Rehearsal at 7:00 pm. We will celebrate the Advent Season each Sunday with families lighting the Advent Wreath each week.You are invited to come and worship as we focus on the Advent of our God in Christ’s coming to earth and of his anticipated return.
Congregation Christmas DinnerThe congregation is invited to a Special Congregational Christmas Dinner on December 13th following the 10:30 am worship. The menu will be Filet Mignon, Baked Potatoes, Fresh Green Beans, Salad with Cobbler for Dessert! Free tickets (reservations) will be needed and they may be picked up at the table in The Gathering Place while tickets last. Get your tickets early! Generous thank offerings will provide proceeds that will go toward the Children’s Playground Fund. The Lemuel Sinclair family is donating the filet mignon and our great chefs will grill them to perfection. Mr. James Keeter, Landscape Architect, is developing a thematic design for the playground area with “Noah’s Ark” running at the top of the list of possibilities. Can’t you just see a Noah’s Ark out there for the children to go into and climb on! Our special thanks to The Sinclairs and Keeters! Christmas WorshipChristmas Eve Candlelight (almost) Communion worship services will be offered at 5:30pm and at 9:00 pm. Extra special music will enhance our worship experience at each service. The Nursery will be provided for the 5:30 pm service only. |
