We have so many former non-Lutherans come and join our congregation, love it and celebrate the privilege of being a member of St. John Lutheran. We have received an average of 85 to 90 new members each year and most all have felt welcomed and have joined with us in worship, witness and service. God’s Spirit has brought us together with a sense of oneness and joy that has been noticeable to so many. That is a gift of God’s grace! |

From Pastor Schulte’s PenOctober 2009 Annual Congregation Meeting ReportThe Annual Meeting of St. John Lutheran Congregation was held on Sunday, September 27, 2009. The following new Congregation Council Members were elected: Dennis Kruse was elected to fill the unexpired term of one year. The Council has appointed the person elected to begin filling the vacancy immediately with term ending at the end of 2010. Don Busby was elected to serve as Treasurer; Deanna Grist was elected to serve as Chair of the Evangelism Committee; Anne Fulling Chair of the Children’s Ministry Committee,Brandt Klutts, Chair of The Property Committee; Emma Kruse and Alexander Ruck were elected to the two Youth Member positions. |

voted to approve the Social Statement on Sexuality,
voted to approve Same Gender Unions and
voted to approve the Ordination of Openly Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual and Trans-Gendered persons who are in a committed relationship or may plan to be some day.
* The vote to approve the Sexuality Statement: 695 For to 285 Against.
* The vote to approve ELCA Clergy to Preside at Gay Marriage: 619 For to 402 Against
* The vote to approve the Ordination/Rostering of Openly Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual &
Transgendered persons: 559 For to 451 Against (A margin of 108 votes).

The 2009 Churchwide Assembly of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America will meet in Minneapolis, MN August 17th, 4:00 PM – August 23nd. This 20th Anniversary Assembly of the soon to be 21 year old church will certainly prove to be the most historic. Coming before the Assembly this year will be four major questions that will bring the 20 years of discussion about the ELCA approving of same gender ceremonies in the church and the ordination of openly gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered persons who currently are in, our who may contemplate being in, a committed relationship. |

From Pastor Carpenter's PenSome Youth Event NewsBryant Williams was installed as St John’s Director of Youth Faith Formation Ministry on Sunday June 28th. Within 2 hours he was packed and ready to travel toward the Gulf Coast for a 9th Grade beach retreat. (The retreat was facilitated by our very own Cross Trails Ministry. Evin Schuchardt was even one of our singing/bible teaching camp counselors!) While in Port Aransas, our youth enjoyed morning and evening worship, morning and evening Bible study time, service and evangelism time, and of course… beach time. They returned to Boerne on July 3rd. |
